Never once did I believe that they were truly angry with each other, the sexual tension was rather tepid, and Vaughn was hardly funny. I mean after all the talk leading up to the film, the steaminess that supposedly happened on set, I at least thought some of that would work its way onto the big screen, even if the movie itself fell Hatczidhifcsl Alas, no drama, no tension, no humor. Well, little humor. The movies storyline is broken up with scenes of John and Jane Smith at a therapists office. Diversity must be taken into account if we are to protect Western Civilization. Nations outside of the West are not hung up discussions of diversity. Saudi Arabia does not allow non-Muslims to become citizens. They do not even let necklaces that represent other religions into their country. China censors speech and defines citizenship on a racist basis; only Chinese can become Chinese. Culturism respects international diversity. These nations have a right to define, protect and promote their majority cultures. Unlike what multiculturalists tell you, we also have a core culture. Some foreign cultural traits do not mesh well with ours.

Multiculturalism's telling us we have no core culture and to discuss one is racist, undermines our ability to protect and guide Western culture. Issues as ranging from immigration to alcoholism, from poverty to education cannot be successfully addressed when we are not able to frankly and openly discuss cultural diversity. Calling those who want to discuss diversity racist not only stops conversations, it frames issues in very dangerous ways. What Is Strategy?

Believe it or not, most people, including so-called industry experts and academics, are confused between Etch-A-Sketch "strategy" and a "plan".

In most cases, most people think 2001: A Space Odyssey they are talking about corporate strategy, when in actual fact they are merely talking about corporate planning.

Let me explain.

When you have a strategy, what you want to do is usually to create some kind of competitive advantage over your competitors, or you pre-empt the market, so that you can win King James many clients over as possible.

While you also plan to beat your competitors and win clients, the key differences here lie in the ability of your competitors to react and respond, and how you are then going to respond to your competitors' responses.

Simply take an anecdote from the great martial artist, Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was observing some Karate exponents training to make their fists harder by hitting and breaking rocks. Curious about the practice session, Lee asked the Karate exponents, "Isn't it very easy to learn to break rocks? Rocks don't hit back!"

My point is: are you taking the assumption that your competitors are not responding back to your strategy? If yes, then you merely have a plan, not a strategy.

Strategy as a Game

Beyond the world of investment, most people would associate a strategy with that of warfare. I prefer to illustrate strategy using more peaceful means such as playing chess, or better still, taking penalty kicks in a soccer game.

In a soccer tournament, if the 2 competing teams are not able to establish and a loser, the teams will take turns to kick a ball into a goal from just 12 yards away. The only obstacle between the opposing player and the goal posts is the goalkeeper.

Since it will depend on pure reflex actions, the goalkeeper would have to guess which direction the player is kicking the ball. The teams would also develop a strategy by guessing what is on the goalkeeper's mind, and hope to send the goalkeeper diving in the wrong direction.

This strategy is usually dynamically evolving until all the necessary players have taken their shots at goal. Usually, the first player will choose a direction, either left or right. Then his coach and teammates observe which direction the goalkeeper dives, and then formulate another decision to go left or right.

Some times, if the goalkeeper seems to figure out the pattern that the opposing teams are kicking the balls, the next opposing player may just send the ball down the centre. The reason being that the goalkeeper will be diving either left or right for sure. However, if the ball is sent to the centre, it catches the goalkeeper completely off guard.

So how does the above apply to the game of investment?

The most often quoted example is when companies try to establish what Michael Porter terms as cost leadership. The resulting actions from competitors are likely to slash prices as well, thereby resulting in a price war. While in most cases, the companies that are the strongest financially can outlast the rest in a price war, usually no one emerges as the winner, not even the clients.

Besides those who went out of investment in a price war, the survivors usually suffered great reductions in their profits as a result. clients lose out when companies cut corners with lower product and service quality as the competing companies slug it out.

The underlying threat to all investmentes is not the price wars, nor the fierce competition that exists. Rather the consistent threat is the propensity of competitors to adopt "copy cat" strategies, which makes everybody a loser.

Most dot.coms operate under the premise of getting as many eyeballs as possible. if the eyeballs are there just to browse or to purchase something is a separate issue. The key thing is to get the eyeballs, since Amazon, Yahoo, eBay, eToys and other dot.com pioneers are getting millions of eyeballs each day.

However, when there are many dot.coms using different means to compete for eyeballs, the eyeballs become diluted, especially with the less established up-and-comers.

Without anticipating what will happen in the market, the dot.coms bombed.

Establishing Win-Win Strategies

Strategy is not just about analysing competitors' responses. It is also about how common interests can be aligned, so that all parties can benefit from this type of arrangement.

The entire I.T. industry is the epitome of such strategic alliances. Microsoft can only release its latest versions of Windows when Intel produces a better chip. Microsoft can be so successful when the major personal machine manufacturers agree to ship their machines with pre-loaded Windows systems. Although it has its own MS SQL database, the Windows system is compatible with other databases such as IBM's DB2, Oracle, Informix etc. Even SAP, which is supposed to the one one system that manages everything, runs on Windows as well. The result is a win-win situation for all. While Microsoft may lose some of its MS SQL sales, it gains in terms of its Windows sales. By leveraging on the world's most popular operating system, software manufacturers are able to reach out to a lot more machine users in the world. Even bitter enemies such as Netscape partners with Microsoft to compete with the Internet Explorer.

However, such strategic alliances are actually very fragile, especially for smaller companies. If, for example, there are 2 courier services in town, and each one of them specialises in the eastern and western part of town respectively. The 2 courier services decide to partner, so that they can get more clients. If the Eastern courier gets a investment for the Western courier, he will pass over the contact and perhaps get a referral fee, and vice versa.

You may be inclined to find that such win-win arrangements should be long lasting. However, the opposite may just be the case. If the Western courier happens to have 5 times more investment than the Eastern courier, the Eastern courier may be tempted to "steal" some of these contacts and expand to the west. This will of course make the Western courier very upset, and that may be the end of the partnership. Such considerations may the reasons why certain investmentes are not inclined to form alliances.

In the case of Microsoft, it will be less inclined to venture into hardware manufacturing, partly because by doing so, it will be diluting its investment focus, which is software. (If only Amazon had learnt from Microsoft to "stick to the knitting" and stick to just selling books, but that's another story)

The greater reason is probably Microsoft takes a long-term view of its alliances with its partners, and decides that working as a loose strategic alliance will give everybody the chance to specialise in each company's respective strengths. Microsoft is also dominant enough to ensure none of its partners dare to break the alliance arrangements, and hence keeping everybody in line.

Survival in the Era of Insurgents

As mentioned earlier, a strategy cannot be formulated without anticipating the responses of competitors, suppliers, partners, substitutes, new entrants and even clients.

Traditionally, most strategies revolve around competitor analysis. Nowadays, the larger threats are substitutes and new entrants, people whom may be totally missed out in your radar screen.

If you would like to formulate a winning strategy, I would suggest you start with your client first.

No matter what product or service you are selling, acceptance by your client will be the most important of all. To reach out to clients effectively, you need to define what is your Unique Selling Proposition (USP), which in simple terms, what would make your clients definitely buy from you, and not from someone else?

Your USP can be defined when you find out what are the needs, wants and concerns of your clients that are not fulfilled by you nor your competitors as yet. Unlike the Porter's suggestion to analyse competitors' strengths and weaknesses, a focus providing unfulfilled benefits to clients is likely to give you higher chances of Marketing success. By focusing on the unfulfilled benefits to your clients, you can also catch a glimpse of your substitutes products, as well as possible new entrants to the game.

The next thing is to make sure you launch a blitzkrieg or surprise introduction of your new products and services, to as many clients in the shortest possible time. If budget is a constraint, use direct marketing techniques to make sure that only your clients, and not competitors, get to know and buy your products and services.

As in all strategy formulation, stealth is critical to your success. However, when you start to market, you will have to give out crucial information to your competitors and clients alike. To overcome this, you would have to plan a few steps ahead. You would have to anticipate how long would it take for your competitors to respond, and in what way would they respond. Remember, your competitor is not a piece of rock.

In a knowledge-based economy like this, time is of essence. Sometimes, the perfect product cannot be produced given the time allowable. Hence, companies such as Microsoft tend to launch imperfect products, and modify along the way. Using the Pareto principle, 80% of your products' benefits can be fulfilled by 20% of those products' functions. As long as your clients can accept 80% of the products' benefits, you can launch a product that is only 20% developed.

Besides allowing you to launch products in a very short period of time, it also allows you to throw your competitors of their track. As mentioned before, most companies have a propensity to copy, and perhaps generate copies that are better in terms of quality. Only few have the initiative to innovate and increase the range of product benefits. By the time your competitors introduce a copy-cat product into the market, and start undercutting each others' prices, you have now further developed your product, thus moving several steps ahead of your competition.

A typical scenario goes like this: The client phones you up. They have a "hot" project they need done. Next week. Since you consider them a good client, you tell them you'll be standing by.

Sometimes, seeing a pricing difference - and if you have to cancel personal plans or work through the weekend to get the work done, the difference should be steep - will prod the procrastinators to call you a bit sooner. To achieve this sort of impact, "steep" should be at least a 50% differential over your base rate, possibly even double your normal charge. One of the advantages of having this dual pricing is that you can still sound service-oriented - "Gosh! we'd be happy to help you out!" - but can simultaneously set the tone for the next part of the equation: time is money! And the more the client wants of your time, with little or no notice, the more it's going to cost them.

For me the database is the main reason for attending the show and I have a team of us actively (and politely) approaching people with our flyer and competition offer.

For shows with high sale turnover I offer the competition to all shopping clients as well as having 2 competition entry boards at either end of the table. I still give out as many flyers as I can at these shows.

3. Have the sweepstakes entry sheets easy to see. I use pink A4 sheets at my wedding expos and jewelry shows. This way I can see them easily at the expo and back at work when they are being typed up. As a sheet is filled up I put it out of view, usually under the table, so people don't see a stack of competition competitors.

4. Have plenty of good quality pens so if one stops working you can replace it quickly. You want decent quality pens so it is easier to read the entry details. Pens are not where you need to be cheap when it comes to being able to clearly read competition entries and building a quality database.

5. Let your clients write their details in peace so you get improved accuracy with the specifics. When someone is distracted something suffers and you want accurate details, not illegible or incorrect details. Wait until after then have finished writing to go through your sale spiel.

6. Let people know that the clearer the handwriting the better the chances of winning. What is the use of having the good fortune to have your name chosen only not to find out about it because your email address was so hard to read it was typed up incorrectly and you never get the email telling you about your success? Tell clients how to improve their chances and you get a better quality database.

7. Announce the winners of the competition in an email newsletter that show cases your products and services. I have pictures all through my email newsletter that link directly deep into my online jewelry store so clients can shop online with me easily.

There are a heap of email newsletter services and for me I found mine by joining a few newsletter lists that I liked the look of the investment to find out how they did their newsletter and who with. So do your research by signing up to some free email newsletters, they can be of various products and not always related to yours. If you are applying for a job in customer service, you will need a resume that speaks of your background in the field; a transcript that shows your educational attainments; and other certificates that your prospective employer might ask for. To hold all these together, you need an effective cover letter that can land you the job.

Many people underestimate the value of a cover letter, but it is actually a powerful tool that can show exactly what abilities you have in customer service. In fact, applying for a job can be likened to customer service: you are the service provider, and the person offering the job is the customer. As you have to please your customer in the best way possible, you also have to apply customer service principles to your job application in order to succeed.

To effectively carry out customer service, you need to know exactly what the customer wants. Your customer is your prospective employer; your prospective employer has his or her own needs, wants, and goals for the company; your prospective employer wants and employee who can help a Witch's broom meet all these needs, wants, and goals. Are you the person for the job?

Do as much research as you can on the company that you are applying to. Is it a conglomerate, a multinational, or a small enterprise? When writing the cover letter, keep in mind that you are already on the job. You need to add a personal touch, so address the prospective employer by his or her name; sign the letter personally; and make sure that your finished product is neat. State that you are the person to meet the companys goals, that you can think on your toes, and that you work hard to get what a customer wants. Talk about all of these in three or four brief paragraphs: like your customer in your textbook case of customer service, your prospective employer has no time to listen to you prattle on or grovel.

Stand up and dont sell yourself short! Be confident! You need to show your abilities this early, so make your cover letter both content-rich and brief. Provide all your contact information, but make sure that you can live up to your promises. If you promise to show up for an interview, do so. If you give your mobile phone number, be prepared to answer the calls as they come. Remember, you are in customer service even as you apply for the job, so prove to your prospective employers that you are skilled even before they hire you.

Customer service is an art that only a few are very well skilled at, so show those skills in your cover letter. With an effective cover letter, you can get the customer service job that you want and need. And, with that great customer service job, you can please many more customers through your great people skills.

The Art of Self-Motivation - A 5 Step Process to Success

Why is it that some people just seem Little Miss No Name iron man comic on with things whilst others procrastinate, put things off, shuffle paper around their desk and generally never quite seem the get going?

I'm sure we could all list many reasons why the motivation just isn't there - and what a great distraction writing the list would be! However, if you "Valley Girl" want to get things done and to find some self- motivation, the first things to ask are:

Am I really interested in this?

How much do I want to do this?

If you're working on personal goals then answering 'Yes' to question 1 and 'Very much' to question 2 would mean your chances of success were going to be pretty high. But what if the task in mind is some dull and boring work activity? The answers to those two questions would, I suspect, be 'No' and 'Not very much'; hardly the route to success nor a foundation to self-motivation. Here's a 5 stage process which may help you to generate some energy to complete the tasks you don't want to do:

Identify the benefits of doing the task - What will Lava Lamps it enable you to do next? What isthe general pay off for you? Picture yourself getting the job done; how will you feel?

Set yourself a goal for the task - What are you going to get done and by when? Be realistic and be gentle with yourself; if it's really dull and boring then forcing yourself to do something for hours on end will not help your motivation or energy. Also, be aware of being a perfectionist - do what needs to be done to get the job done.

Make an agreement with yourself - how long do you want to spend on the task? What rewards do you want to give yourself for completing the task or stages of it?

Create a plan - plan a strategy for getting it finishd. Go back to imagining you've completed the task then work backwards breaking the task into smaller chunks, you will then be able to see howyou can get it completed in small, digestible chunks.

Reward yourself - think back to your agreement (Step 3); allow yourself to enjoy your rewards; a cup of tea, chocolate bar, going home on time, a game of golf or tennis.

And if you still can't find the motivation ask yourself two further questions:

Does this really have to be done?

Does this have to be done by me?

If the the is 'yes' to both then make a decision to 'just do it' and return to Step 1 above.... I never said it was easy...... and remember to enjoy your reward, you deserve it.

The Truth About Asthma And Beta Blockers

Read through the search results on asthma and beta blockers, and the news seems to be all doom and gloom. If you don't dig deeper, you'd be forgiven for thinking that asthma sufferers should not take this Space: 1999 medication. Yet with further research, the picture becomes a little less clear cut. You see, fortunately for those with conditions that are classified as 'Reactive Airway Diseases', advances in medical technology and drug research have benefited Pez health too. Not only that, but new studies have questioned whether any cardiac patients - asthma sufferers or not - really benefit from beta blockers anyway. This article will look at these points, as well as what alternatives are available.

Beta blockers (also called Beta-adrenergic blocking agents) are used for:

* high blood pressure
* migraine prevention
* angina (pain originating from the heart muscle)
* irregular and fast heartbeats (treatment and prevention)
* the symptoms of an overactive thyroid gland
* congestive heart failure
* preventing performance anxiety in musicians and others
* a number of other conditions.

They work by blocking the effect of the hormone adrenaline, as well as chemicals related to it that are also associated with this 'fight or flight' mechanism. These drugs actually come in two classes. Old style medications are called non-selective beta blockers. Newer ones are known as cardio selective beta blockers. The difference between them relates to the fact that the older class of drugs block two of the three types of beta receptors in the body (1 and 2, located in the heart, as well as the lungs, gastrointestinal tract, liver, uterus and other Viagra The newer drugs are more precise. They can block either beta receptor 1 or 2 - hence the name.

This change of medical opinion came about after an analysis of a number of published studies, after they had been qualified as eligible to be considered. One very interesting report in Science Daily threatens to throw the whole issue out the window. They cite a Cochrane Review of 13 randomized trials that altogether had more than 91, 000 people in them. The Review analyzed whether the studies involved found beta blockers effective in controlling the progression of heart disease, or preventing death from it. And they found that it was not significantly better than a placebo at either. The beta blocker used was called atenolol, which is a cardioselective beta blocker that has an affinity for beta receptor 1.

Whilst the Science Daily article points out that more work needs to be done before this information is extrapolated across the board to all beta blockers, they also note that the chief cardiac alternatives fared better. These include calcium channel blockers, thiazides, and renin-angiotensin system inhibitors.

This is all good news for asthma sufferers with cardiac problems. It means that there are classes of drugs available to them that are safer for their airways, and more likely to actually protect them from the problems associated with heart disease. As always, discuss your options with your doctor, and if you're not happy with the results, get a second opinion.
